Roof Replacement in Hurst, TX
A new roof is a chance to fix what the old covering hides. Plan removal, decking, flashing and shingles together, starting with a free roof inspection.
Plan a Hurst roof replacement as one connected system
You can change the color of a roof without solving the reason it has become hard to maintain. Replacement earns its cost when the worn covering comes off and the work addresses the layers and connections beneath it. That includes the soft section of deck beside a long-running leak, the wall flashing under several patches, and the edge where water has been getting behind the gutter.
We first establish whether the existing roof still has a practical repair option. If shingles break as they are lifted, defects extend across several slopes, or separate repairs keep opening up more damaged material, a replacement comparison becomes useful. The age of the house does not decide that question.
For a Hurst reroof, we plan the permit and any required deck inspection along with the physical work. Your free inspection starts the discussion with the actual roof, the parts worth keeping and the connections that need rebuilding.

What comes off and what gets rebuilt
Removal opens a useful window into the roof. What happens in that window determines the support and water protection beneath the finished shingles.
- Deck and fastening support
Once the covering is removed, exposed wood can be checked for deterioration and a suitable nailing surface. A stained board and a softened board are different findings. Damaged areas need an agreed replacement scope, with the required Hurst decking inspection before the new assembly conceals the work.
- Underlayment, valleys and wall joints
The protective layer below the shingles needs deliberate laps around valleys and openings. At a chimney or sidewall, we assess the flashing itself, including any part tucked behind siding or into masonry. Leaving an old patched joint under new shingles carries that problem into the new roof.
- Edges, field shingles and ridge
Starter, perimeter metal, field shingles and ridge caps have different jobs. Their layout and fastening follow the selected system. Roof ventilation is considered at the same time so a new ridge opening has an appropriate intake path instead of becoming an isolated extra vent.
Choose the shingle package for your roof
Profile, performance testing and installed scope answer different questions. A material choice has to fit the roof before its appearance settles the decision.
We discuss the proposed shingle and its supporting components together. The Shingle Options guide separates appearance, impact testing and system requirements.
How replacement work moves across the house
Replacement affects the space around the house as well as the roof. Access and weather determine how much roofing can be opened and completed safely.

Prepare access and remove the covering
Agree where materials and debris containers will go, which entry remains usable and how nearby plants or outdoor equipment will be protected. Removal exposes the roof in manageable areas; a forecast change can alter that sequence.

Resolve the deck and roof details
Check exposed support and handle newly found damage through the agreed change process. City inspection of replaced decking belongs before covering it. Flashing work may also require coordination at siding, masonry or equipment.

Install, finish and clear the work area
Build the specified layers through the ridge and perimeter, complete the required final checks and collect tear-off debris. Noise and falling material affect daily routines. Occupancy arrangements depend on the roof, access and any interior damage, rather than a universal one-day schedule.
Budget for the whole Hurst reroof
The Dallas–Fort Worth planning range for installed architectural asphalt shingles is $5–$8 per square foot of roof surface. A 2,000-square-foot roof gives a starting budget of $10,000–$16,000.
The range includes materials, labor, tear-off, disposal and permits. Our roof cost calculator uses those same rates and distinguishes measured roof surface from a building footprint. Hidden decking damage, roof complexity and site access need a property-specific assessment.
- Work below the shingles
Deck replacement, complicated flashing and additional removal change the work. Hidden damage needs a stated pricing and authorization method before it becomes an extra charge.
- The roof and the way into it
Steep planes, intersecting valleys, height and restricted material handling add labor. Equal square footage does not mean equal construction effort.
- Payment and coverage
The project agreement should state payment stages and the actual warranty issuers and terms. Insurance payment follows the policy and covered loss; it does not replace agreement on the roofing work.
Roof replacement FAQs
When is replacement more useful than repair?
Replacement becomes more useful when local repairs cannot connect to workable material or deterioration extends widely enough that separate repairs leave much of the problem in place. We explain what a repair would retain and what replacement would address.
Does replacement include damaged decking?
The exposed deck is assessed during removal. Replacing damaged wood must be included or handled through an agreed change process; a basic shingle price does not establish an allowance for unlimited decking. Hurst requires a City inspection when decking is replaced.
Can old roofing be left in place?
A recover is a separate technical and permitting decision. Existing layers, weight, attachment and hidden condition matter. Removal provides access to the deck and connections; we discuss the appropriate scope for the actual house.
How do access and roof shape change the cost?
A steep wall intersection takes more access and detail work than an open, lower slope. Valleys, roof height, limited delivery space and the route for removing debris change labor even when two roofs have the same area.
What does Hurst require for a reroof?
The City requires a permit for every reroof and a City inspection for replaced decking. Final roof checks are separate. The Hurst roofing permit guide explains the order and links the municipal documents.
How long will the work take, and can we stay home?
Roof size, weather, deck repairs and inspection coordination affect the schedule. Staying home can be workable, but noise, pets, access and any unsafe interior area need a plan. We discuss those conditions before work is scheduled.
Does the new roof come with one warranty?
Material coverage and installation coverage can have different issuers, exclusions and remedies. The written terms for the selected system and contracted work govern; a shingle’s warranty label is not a promise that every future leak is covered.
